Anjeer Dried Figs or Theen or Anjeer is one of nature’s sweetest fruit. Figs are plump, moist, and succulent and you can eat them out of the bag or simply add to many delicious recipes. Though fresh figs are not available for everyone, mostly for the inhabitants of the southern countries, dried figs can be easily purchased or made by anyone. As it is not possible to keep these fruits fresh for a long time, they are dried right after harvest. Ripe figs are harvested in the hottest period of the year.

First, they are sorted according to size and quality. It is considered that smaller fruits are tastier. They are put into the baskets or sieves to be washed in a vat of water. After that figs are spread on grids and each fruit is dipped into the boiling sugar syrup. It has to be done in order to prevent the process of decay or possible fermentation. Then it is covered with a special net to protect it from the insects and put under the sun for 8-10 days. The figs’ skin becomes flexible and the flesh has a jam-like consistency. Such wilted figs are put into the boxes where they should stay for a few months.

When they turn into bronze or amber color – they are ready for consumption. Sometimes they have white scurf on the surface. It’s sugar crystals, not the mold. Dried figs can be preserved for several years. You won’t find a better plant source of calcium than figs. Figs are one of the more healthy fruits available and are commonly eaten by adults who have problems with the digestive system. Figs soaked in water overnight do wonders on your body.

In fact, you could also eat them as it is. Please ensure that figs are not consumed in large quantities as they are highly sweet and may not suit your body, especially if you are a diabetic. Incidentally, Figs are one of the best health supplements you can give to your baby – it has a lot of the essential nutrients and minerals that can help your child grow up well. Figs are always safe for babies.

It can be introduced as early as six months, according to reports. Boil the Dry figs in water until the water becomes brownish, and feed to the child. Or can give Dry fig puree for babies who have not switched over to solid food yet. However; you should ensure that the baby is comfortable with other foods before giving it.
