Annatto Seeds Powder Natural Colorant/Dye : Genie

Non-food grade Annatto Seed Powder (INCI: Bixa Orellana Seed Powder) for natural dyeing. E-copies of Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and Certificate of Analysis (CoA) will be shared upon request.

USE IN SOAP: In soaps, it can be added mainly in four ways: 1) One to two tsp per kilo of soap batter AT TRACE; 2) Making a COLD INFUSION with nine parts oils and one part powder; 3) HEAT INFUSION in oil of choice with the same ratio, wherein both are heated over slow flame for an hour or so and left overnight; 4) Boiling the powder in water and using the TEA instead of water.
USE IN PAPER & FABRIC: Using natural dyes for yarns, fabrics and paper require pre-dyeing preparations such as scouring and mordanting. Moreover, as most of the dyes are pH sensitive, the Vat needs to be prepared carefully. Addition of modifiers and reducers may be required to get different colors and to dye effectively. If you are not familiar with natural dyes, please request information sheets. If you use the dyes like other chemical pigments, you will NOT be successful.

Dyeing with dry botanical powders is dependent on many variables; some controllable such as quantity, water, color of base oils, soaping method, mordant, fabric, paper, dyeing method and some not, such as different crop yield, extraction method, fragrances, pH, etc. Moreover, it is a skill learnt over time through many trials and errors and by having some level of technical understanding of Chemistry.
